Art Photography

Course Description

This course includes an introduction to black and white photography, with an emphasis on the
development of creative, personal photographic vision. Artistic composition is stressed within
this course. The student should have his/her own camera, standard 35mm SLR or larger format,
with an adjustable light meter and an adjustable shutter and diaphragm. If a student cannot obtain
a camera, the Art Department has limited number of cameras which a student may sign out. This
does not guarantee a camera to all students who do not have their own cameras. Students/parents
understand that they are financially responsible for school cameras at time of sign-out. Each
student must pay for his/her p(subject to change).
Prerequisites- “C” or better in Art Foundations I

Art Photography - Advanced

Course Description

Students in Advanced Photography will learn additional photographic techniques and how to
produce special effects. The taking and developing of color slides will be covered, as well as
advanced black and white photography. Each student will be assigned individual and class
projects, and must complete at least one major photographic documentary. Students contracting
for Level 1 must maintain a minimum of a “B” and must keep a design journal. A research
project is also required. The lab fee for this course is 10.00 (subject to change)

Commercial Art

Course Description

Commercial Art and Design is the first course in a recommended two-course sequence. The
course focuses on defining, recognizing, and executing advertising concepts. The relationship
between an advertising problem and a creative concept is demonstrated through case histories
and class assignments. Students are encouraged to continue on to Visual Production.
Prerequisites- “C” or better in Art Foundations I

Visual Arts – Advanced Techniques

Course Description

This course includes directed examination and the extension of previous artwork with emphasis
on personal approaches in drawing, painting, printing and three-dimensional design. The
emphasis is on making visual and artistic decisions, and developing an appropriate attitude
towards individual expression. Visitations from artists and college personnel and field trips to
museums round out the greater understanding of visual arts. Students will present a body of work
based on student/teacher agreement for a grade by the end of each semester.

Prerequisites- “B” or better in two previous art courses
