Art Notes
Everyone
can benefit from exposure to the visual arts. “Art is a mode of knowing among
many modes of knowing.”1 The thrust of an education in the visual arts centers
on the development of a person's ability to “see” as the artist sees.
A visual artist looks at the world in a particular way and expresses
human experience in the world in terms of a visual vocabulary. This site will
introduce you to that unique language. Most people do not go on to careers
in the visual arts but many of the skills acquired in arts training have application
in other areas of their lives. These skills include analytical problem-solving
skills, self-discipline and self-evaluation. In addition, developments in
technology will make for an increasingly visual world. Training in the visual arts will assist in preparing you for that
new reality.
