COLLABORATIVE "SCHOOLING FISH" MOBILE (08/09)
Forty-three of Mrs. Keller's 8th grade art students worked together to create a large mobile which was recently installed in the main stairwell off the office hall. The piece was inspired by the work of Alexander Calder and measures approximately 7 feet long , 5 feet wide and 5 feet deep. Each student used metal foil (of various colors), tooled a pattern on the foil, and then created a three-dimensional fish, each about a foot long, by stuffing the two-sided fish. Students had to make sure all the fish weighed the same, and hanging required adjusting the length of wire and fishline in order to balance all 43 fish on a blue metal wire frame.
